Facing School and Public Zone Charges
In New Jersey, if you are convicted of a drug offense in a school zone, you face a mandatory three-year prison sentence. Even if you were traveling through a school zone at 3:00 a.m., this increased penalty would apply to you.
Also, the areas around certain public properties like city halls, parks, public housing projects and boardwalks are considered public zones. The Sentence for Drug crimes committed in public zones are potentially doubling your sentence, and a presumption is created of your being sent to prison. Take notice that all the boardwalk casinos in Atlantic City are located within the boardwalk's public zone.
